05 Jun 2020 - 737-400SF, N733CK, operated by Kalitta Charters II has overrun the runway following an RTO at Rochester, New York on 5 Jun 2020. The aircraft N733CK (25849/2381) was departing from Rochester (KROC) for a flight to Hartford Bradley International airport. At 09:11L (13:11Z) as the aircraft started its take-off run, the aircraft veered to the left and the crew performed an RTO. The aircraft left the runway onto the grass and came to a halt approximately 130 feet to the left of the runway centerline and about 750 feet from the start of the take-off roll. There were 3 crew on board and no injuries. The weather was benign: KROC 051354Z 27006KT 10SM FEW250 24/18 A2986 RMK AO2 SLP112 T02440178 $= One report states that "The captain explained they were lined up, when the co-pilot applied thrust the aircraft veered to the left." Without jumping to conclusions that this was the cause, it is perhaps worth a reminder that there have been incidents in which asymetric thrust was a factor. Boeing issued a reminder to operators in a Fleet Team Digest (737NG-FTD-02-18001) to pass on to their crews about the correct procedure for setting takeoff thrust. It follows 8 confirmed aborted takeoff events in 2017 resulting from advancing the throttles before engines were allowed to stabilize at 40% N1. |
