12 Oct 2018 - Air India Express 737-800 VT-AYD damaged after hiting obstacles on departure

On 12 October 2018, an Air India Express 737-800, VT-AYD (36340/3122), was departing Tiruchirappalli (VOTR), India, runway 27 when the fuselage hit the localizer antenna and a 5 feet (1.5 meters) high brick wall, causing significant damage. It appears that the crew were unaware of the incident as they climbed to FL360 en-route to their destination. They were subsequently informed of what happened by ATC and diverted to Mumbai 4hr 15m after departure.

The captain had 3600 hours on type including 500 in command and the first officer had 3000 hours on type. The Indian DGCA are investigating the event.
