14 Nov 2015 - Gogo gets STC for 2Ku on 737-800s.Inflight entertainment provider Gogo has received authority from the US Federal Aviation Administration to install its 2Ku inflight connectivity service on Boeing 737-800s. The supplemental type certificate gives Itasca, Illinois-based Gogo the green light to move forward with a deal under which it will install the system on Aeromexico’s entire fleet of 737-800s, it says. The company will also install an inflight entertainment product called Gogo Vision on Aeromexico’s 737-700s, Embraer 190s and E170s, Gogo says. Aeromexico’s fleet includes 31 737-800s and 19 737-700s and the company’s regional partner Aeromexico Connect operates 11 E170s, three E175s and 30 E190s, Flightglobal's Fleet Analyzer database shows. Gogo has said 2Ku’s data transfer speeds will initially be as fast as 73 Mbps but will eventually be as fast as 100 Mbps. The company’s current air-to-ground connectivity service, by comparison, has transfer speeds as fast as 9.8 Mbps.
